The first attempt to create
Moscow ’s Greek Society was in 1924. However its realization was failed – at the discretion of Soviet Authorities the attempt hided nationalistic interests and at the registration the permission was refused.
Peoples strive for communication, for preserving their language and culture is a natural national feeling. The hope was elevated at the beginning of Perestroika the first sprouts of Democracy.
After that remindful revolution of 1924 an initiative group of people with George Trapeznikov as a leader (senior research assistant of Marxism-Leninism Institute under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the
Soviet Union ) undertook again an attempt to unite Greeks. The help of that kind of leader as Trapeznikov worked as the best prove of Greek cleanliness of thoughts for the party bureaucrat. And in 1989 was registrated “Greek Community of Moscow”. Among its members was: I.Mavromatis, G.Apostolatov, V.Amiridi, D.Hachhardji, P.Aslanov, A.Kritarasov, M.Ritova, P.Frangulidi, A.Ioannidi, E.Davankova, S.Alengos, G.Ermidi. First president was G.Trapeznikov while the years 1992-1995 the head of community was A.Paraskevopoulo. The period 1995-2005 the Community was leaded by Konstantinos Shotidi., and years 2005 and 2006 by Zelilov Kouzma.
At the present time, since 2006, the president of
Moscow ’s Greek Community is Atmachidi Konstantinos.
The activity of the Community is always related with the revival of the Greek language, the conservation of cultural traditions, with the strengthening of the international relations and spiritual connections between people of , ,
and the whole world. The community actively helps war veterans not only in days of celebrations and jubilees but in their every day life. Greek Society of Moscow is a member of the international conference under the
Moscow ’s government, actively participate in the public life of the capital, and cooperate in the arrangement of the international agreement.
Greek Society of Moscow cooperates with the Ministry of Nations of
. Hold in common actions on organization scientific conferences and seminars. Our self active collectives and professional artists aren’t rare guests at celebrations of Ministry.
The Community actively interacts with the embassies of Greece and Cyprus.
